Collagenase SANTYL® is an enzymatic debriding agent widely used in wound care to promote the removal of necrotic (dead) tissue. By breaking down non-viable collagen in the wound bed, SANTYL® supports the body's natural healing process and helps prepare wounds for further treatment.
However, not all wound care products are compatible with Collagenase SANTYL®. Using incompatible dressings, topical agents, or antibiotics may inactivate the enzyme, reduce its effectiveness, and lead to suboptimal patient outcomes. It’s important for providers to understand which adjunctive therapies can safely be used alongside enzymatic debridement to maintain an optimal wound environment.
Common areas of caution include products containing silver, iodine, heavy metals, and certain antibiotics, all of which may interfere with the activity of collagenase. For this reason, wound care teams should closely review wound care protocols when incorporating SANTYL® into treatment plans.
If you're evaluating wound care protocols for your hospital or physician practice, we encourage you to review the official compatibility chart below to support safe and effective treatment practices. Incorporating evidence-based strategies like enzymatic debridement can make a significant difference in patient outcomes, especially for chronic wounds such as diabetic ulcers, venous leg ulcers, and pressure injuries.
