Wound Care Nurse - Newport News, VA

$28.00 - $35.00 an hour

SCOPE OF POSITION:

The wound care nurse is responsible for providing routine wound care evaluation, management and treatments to the patients seen by this service in accordance with accepted protocols and clinical standards. Responsibilities include providing standard wound care procedures primarily on an outpatient basis. Wound care nurse will be responsible for care of patients ranging in age from infants to geriatric patients. Wound care nurse is responsible for performing other duties as required. This position requires good verbal communication and administrative skills. Responsibilities include preparing and maintaining necessary departmental/hospital documentation, as well as patient charting utilizing basic computer skills. There will be extensive requirements for interacting with patients, family members and clinical personnel in a professional manner. Performs duties under the direct supervision of the Program Manager or Clinical Coordinator. Under supervision, wound care nurse should be able to exercise initiative and sound independent judgment when caring for patients within the department. Wound care nurse will on occasion be required to work in an emotionally charged environment with possible life and death ramifications demanding high levels of concentration.

ESSENTIAL TASKS:

• Prepare patients for wound care procedures using the safety and clinical protocols.
• Maintain complete and accurate patient records/charts as they pertain to treatment documentation.
• Reinforce patient education as it relates to wound healing procedures.
• Perform wound healing procedures as required.
• Perform duties and procedures as directed by supervisor/medical director.
• Participate in quality improvement program.
• Participate in safety program.
• Maintain competencies, continuing education and certifications as appropriate.
• Day-to-day maintenance of wound care equipment.
• Perform hyperbaric treatments, if trained, as ordered by physician.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Position requires the ability to walk and stand most of the day. Must be able to turn, twist and bend repetitively through the day. May be required to crouch, stoop and reach high places. Able to carry, push, pull and handle patients in addition to multiple pieces of equipment using proper body mechanics. Ability to use hands and fingers to handle/feel objects, tools and controls is required. Ability to visually accommodate with good color vision, depth perception and wide field of vision.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Prior experience as an Registered Nurse.
• Must maintain BLS certification and license (if applicable) in the state of practice.
• Must maintain required professional certification within the state of practice.
• Will obtain a minimum of 12 hours of wound care specific continuing education credits every two years.
• Will attend hyperbaric introductory training as appropriate.

Hyperbaric Technician - Newport News, VA

$15.00 - $25.00 an hour

Looking for a candidate that has prior experience as an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician), Paramedic, Military Corpsman, RT (Respiratory Therapist), LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse), or RN (Registered Nurse) to work as a Hyperbaric Technician. Training for this position will be provided at no cost to the employee.

The Hyperbaric Technician is responsible for providing hyperbaric medicine treatments to the patients seen by this service in accordance with accepted protocols, clinical standards, and prescribed by a qualified physician. Responsibilities include patient care, quality control of equipment, invasive and noninvasive monitoring, wound dressings, accurate and timely record keeping, and the safe performance of hyperbaric treatments. The Hyperbaric Technician is responsible for care of patients varying in age from infants to geriatric patients. The Hyperbaric Technician must be willing to perform other duties as required. This position requires good verbal communication and administrative skills. Responsibilities include preparing and maintaining necessary departmental/hospital documentation, as well as patient charting utilizing basic computer skills. There will be extensive requirements for
interacting with patients, family members and clinical personnel in a professional manner. The Hyperbaric Technician should be able to exercise initiative and sound independent judgment when caring for patients within the department. Technician will obtain continuing education credits to maintain CHT or CHS credential.

MA (Medical Assistant) / CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) - Newport News, VA

$16.00 - $19.00 an hour

​​SCOPE OF POSITION:

The Medical Assistant (MA) works under the supervision of the Clinical Coordinator or direction of an RN/LPN. He/she provides direct care for clinic patients with wounds, as well as general duties to assist professional staff. The MA may prepare patients for care, assist patients with limited mobility, as well as perform specific procedures with appropriate orientation and supervision. The employee follows all hospital and company policies and procedures. He/she complies with hospital and nursing standards while performing job duties and responsibilities within their scope of practice. He/she will demonstrate competence in these minimum performance standards through the ability to perform tasks.

ESSENTIAL TASKS:

• Provide direct care for patients in the clinic setting to include vital signs and capillary blood glucose monitoring.

• Assist licensed personnel with:
- Removal of dressing
- Wound measurements
- Wound debridements, biopsies and cultures
- Application of dressing
• Perform or assist clerical staff in preparation for clinic, including preparing charts, chart forms and worksheets.
• Assist with wound photography, labeling and filing.
• Assist with office functions as needed, including but not limited to answering phones; typing; filing; data entry; billing; collection; patient registration; and patient accounting systems.
• Routinely report patient response to care and other clinical data to RN/LPNs in a timely fashion.
• Organize and prioritize work to provide patient care in a safe environment to maximize health in the continuum of care and protect the patient.
• Respond to needs for assistance and service in a timely and professional manner.
• Maintain an active role in orderliness and sanitation of the WCC; keeping treatment rooms fully stocked; decontamination/preparation for sterilization of instruments; maintaining equipment clean and functional reporting deviations to management.

• Keep inventory of supply utilization and order necessary supplies.
• Actively keep patient and families informed of status of care/treatments per RN and/or MD.
• Accept direction from supervising clinical staff adhering to wound care policies and procedures.
• Protect all patient rights, including confidentiality.
• Demonstrate consistent use of safety-related policies and procedures including OSHA Blood borne Pathogens Standard, Standard/Universal Precautions, body mechanics, biohazardous waste management, fire and disaster plans.
• Support and encourage a harmonious work relationship, assuming additional responsibility and assisting others.
• Prioritize work, keeping supervisors aware of progress and available time.
• Document on forms clearly, legibly and use only approved abbreviation.
• Consistently demonstrate rapport even with difficult or demanding customers.
• Adhere to hospital dress code policy.
• Assume active role in wound care by attendance at staff meetings, in-services and other wound care related activities. Review minutes when unable to attend.
